A symposium each September, free online briefings through the year, and course intakes scheduled for the coldest weeks we can find. Members register first; everything technical is eventually published anyway.

Winter Wall Symposium 2026

Two days of measured results from the station network, a session-by-session review of the draft exterior-insulation ratio guidance, short papers from member firms, and the annual general meeting on the second afternoon. Held at the Manitoba Institute of Trades conference centre; recordings posted free within a month.

Certificate cohort begins — Cold-Climate Hygrothermal Design

Open briefing: reading a monitored-assembly dataset

Ninety minutes, free and open to anyone. We download one published station dataset live, clean it, plot the interface temperatures for a winter, and explain what the quality flags mean. No modelling experience assumed.

Field school intake — Envelope Diagnostics in the Field

The winter cohort, scheduled for the coldest fortnight on the thirty-year record. Twenty-four places, most of the three days spent outdoors at the reference wall yard. Dress for −30 °C; the reading list and the equipment list arrive four weeks ahead.

Northern housing diagnostics week

Delivered with the Manitoba Housing Renewal Corporation for local crews and housing authority staff. Subsidised by the Institute; participants from northern communities pay the student rate. Dates confirmed in November.

A summary of the responses received on Guidance 06 and the revisions we made because of them, including the two comments that overturned a recommendation.

Registration and cancellation

Registration opens to members two weeks before the general public. Fees are payable in Canadian dollars and include applicable taxes. Cancellations more than 21 days before a course are refunded in full; within 21 days the place may be transferred to a colleague or to the next intake. If the Institute cancels, fees are refunded in full. Course seats are held for northern and student applicants until four weeks before each intake. Ask about a specific date.
